We’ve All Got Ghosts

There’s a haunting sillhouette that lingers in the back of our minds and the corners of our hearts. It sings a quiet melody of all things not forgotten- just loud enough to leave a buzz. To distract. To annoy. To occupy the empty time of the up-all-nights or the I-can’t-sleeps. It’s always just enough to leave a constant sting.

We’ve all got ghosts. A someone running around with parts we’ve given of ourselves. But, when you get bitter, when you get angry, when you get sad…remember they were given voluntarily.

Remember those first days or weeks or months when everything was so exciting and new. Remember that those moments when you felt most excited, you were giving of yourself. You were sharing. Opening up to someone new. Wrapping yourselves up. Don’t let those things that most excited you be the same things that stop you dead in your tracks.

Try. And try again. It doesn’t matter how many times it takes for you to get it right. It doesn’t matter how many attempts at love have failed. Everyone has failed attempts. Those trial and errors, those failures and broken moments- brought you to who you are and who you will be for the one that makes it worth it. And trust me, there will be one. And they will have a past, too. They’ll have a story and baggage and battle scars. And you’ll find that those are the things you bond over. You’ll find that every single moment brought you exactly to where you are. Right to them.

So when you’re tired of waiting, remember that someone else has been waiting too.

“My attempts at love are not worth speaking of. But, my dear friend, I’ll try again…..”
